About Me

Based in London, I’m a poet, writer, translator and performer available for commissions, readings, talks, workshops and creative collaborations.

My work brings together poetry, lived experience and research to explore childhood and relational trauma, how personal experiences of violence are shaped by wider political systems as well as forms of resistance, survival and healing. Through performances and public talks, I create space for difficult stories to be shared and heard. I collaborate with poets, translators, musicians and theatre makers on performances and interdisciplinary projects. I also write poetry and essays on commission, translate poetry and essays, and lead creative writing workshops connected to the themes of my work.

I have an MA in Creative Writing and I’m completing a PhD in Arts and Humanities, exploring how poetry can support women in sharing experiences of gender-based violence and patriarchy.

I’ve published five poetry collections: “Страх вышыні” (Fear of Heights), the docupoetry book “Мы вернемся” (We’ll Return), “Вызвалі або бяжы” (Set Me Free or Run) in Belarusian, and the bilingual collections Recycled and Ribwort. I’ve also written a non-fiction book,When I'm Out of Here: Staying Human in aDictator's Jail, which reflects on the collective experience of incarceration for peaceful protest in Belarus. I have also written and staged a play, Body in Progress, about the cruelty of the Belarusian regime, exile, and my journey of healing.

My work has been translated into Polish, Ukrainian, Swedish, Norwegian, German, Czech, Lithuanian, Slovenian, Danish, Italian, Russian and Slovak. I translate my own poetry into English. I’m a member of PEN Belarus and an honorary member of English PEN. In 2021, I was a joint recipient of the Freedom of Speech Prize from the Norwegian Authors’ Union.

I’ve presented my work at numerous international festivals, including the Literature Festival in Mårbacka, the Vilenica International Literary Festival, the HeadRead Literary Festival in Tallinn, Oslo International Poetry Festival, and the Festival for Endangered Languages at the Barbican.
